Diesmal werden wir einen Einblick in die kuwaitische Gesellschaft aus der Perspektive eines kuwaitischen Künstlers bekommen. Ein sehr spannendes Thema, bedenkt man die besondere Rolle, die Kuwait in der Golfregion spielt, aufgrund seiner turbulenten Geschichte, ausgelöst durch die Entkolonialisierung und den Einmarsch irakischer Truppen und den daraus resultierenden zweiten Golfkrieg.

Aseel AlYaqoub (geb. 1986, Kuwait) ist eine Künstlerin, die in den Bereichen Geschichte, Architektur und kulturelle Identitätstheorie arbeitet. Ihre Praxis befasst sich mit Themen der Nation, Staatsapparaten und kollektiver Nostalgie, um herauszufinden, warum einige historische Elemente gut in die nationale Erzählung passen, während andere absichtlich vergessen werden. Mit einer ständig wachsenden Sammlung von gefundenen Objekten, Dokumenten und Medien erforscht sie in ihrer Arbeit die Konstruktion neuer Nationen wie Kuwait. Mit Hilfe von Video, Zeichnung, Installation und Druckgrafik dokumentiert sie die Prozesse der Selbstidentifikation und Staatsgründung der Nation - die unter Druckbedingungen stattfanden - nach der imperialen Auflösung und Wiedervereinigung.
